voice, un: daylight.
[ in the chaos of the others being found, coming back, and more, the network will find itself updated with a simple and short message from daylight.
and 'short' is not a joke: ]
If you guys need something or want a place to stay for or anything like that - You're always welcomed at Loomis Drive 101.
And if you want to chat, I rather we do it face-to-face.

action
[He's not, however, arriving empty-handed. He brings a pair of socks with bells carefully sewn onto the cuff for Daylight, and a book he's recently finished that reminds him of Agatha: The Collected Works of Arthur Conan Doyle.]
Daylight.
[Erwin doesn't mince words and launches right into what he has in mind.]
You're from the distant future, correct? Is it safe to assume that you have knowledge of prosthetics more advanced than the ones in this time and place?
/slides in here hi!! at long last!!!
he's about to greet erwin when the question is asked and- oh. okay. ]
Ummm... [ he rubs the back of his head, huffing under his breath. ] Yeah, I guess? I'm not, like, a certified medic or anything but I know a thing or two when it comes to prosthetics.
[ mostly because he was studying it for nightbreak's sake. though she made it clear she was fine using hard light emission for the foreseeable future, he thought it wouldn't hurt to read up and study on the subject matter. that and emergency aid never failed to share his thoughts/rants on the medical field. ]
Anything you want to know in particular? Like range of motion or materials or factors for rejection and acceptance?
hello hello!
Then you're ahead of anything else around here.
[Erwin offers Daylight the socks he brought him, which jingle cheerfully as Erwin moves them. The bells may or may not be the ones from Erwin's elf hat
they totally are.]I need my arm back.
[Nothing like getting straight to the point!]

[ after feeling a moment of hesitation about whether he could do anything useful, daylight shakes off the doubts decides to think of it this way: he’ll do what he can to help with erwin’s request. while it won’t be easy by any means, it’ll be worth it to help a buddy help.
especially after all they’ve been through. stars do they need a project or thing to focus on. ]
There’s a lot we got to do for prosthetics but I think we can work something out. [ he jabs a thumb behind him, where the door is wide open. ] Want to come in so we can work out some details? Last thing we need is some rubberneckers for our thing, buddy.
[ 'our' thing. meaning that yep: daylight is committed to this. one of the perks when having a friendship with the guy- he will see something through, no matter what. ]

[Erwin follows Daylight inside, lest they attract unwanted attention. It still feels strange to have to crane his neck back to see Daylight's face, but he's getting used to it.]
Thank you. I thought that, perhaps with your advanced technological knowledge, we might be able to solve the problem.
[That, and Erwin has picked up on the fact that Daylight will do just about anything for his friends. He doesn't feel bad about exploiting that fact; Erwin operating at one hundred percent will benefit everyone in Santa Rosita, not just himself.]
I have a book for Agatha as well, to keep her busy while she recovers.
no subject
and daylight is clearly touched by the consideration for agatha, his face lighting up at the mention. given what she’s been through, a gift like that would be nice. ]
I’ll do what I can for you, [ daylight promises, more or less confirming erwin’s hunch.
he takes a deep breath as he walks into the living room, running a hand through his hair while he goes to the coffee table to look for the memo pad and pencil he left on it. ] So I guess we don’t need to debate on what type of prosthetic arm you need, right? You want something that’s functional? Able to do stuff more than needing it to blend in?
[ it’ll cause erwin to stick out like a sore thumb in the end, yeah, but honestly? with how everyone in this town ignores anything freaky? daylight thinks that won’t be an issue in the long run.
daylight is already scribbling some ideas and designs down, trying to recall the lessons of grandma ruby and his boyfriend, emer. it seems more focused on the prosthetic being body-powdered than electrical, due to daylight doubting the medical advancements of this era, but it is... surprisingly solid, design-wise? maybe? ]
no subject
Yes, function is far more important than design. I don't care what it looks like, as long as it works.
[How much it works is a topic to be addressed later; Erwin would love to have full hand function back, but he assumes that's not going to happen. Even a pincher or a hook would be better than nothing, but there's a reason he chose Daylight to ask about this. Someone from a world that travels the stars can likely figure out something better than a simple hook.]
[He watches Daylight scribble, and it's not long before he's lost. Science and technology was never really Erwin's thing, although he is learning about the tech here.
Speaking of which...]
Is there anything you'd like me to take photographs of, Daylight?
no subject
but that question definitely got his attention. the pencil stops and he looks up from the sketch he’s making. ]
... Photograph? Like things or persons of interest or references for the prosthetics? Because I definitely won’t say 'no' to either.
[ speaking of which: daylight the preliminary sketches for erwin’s review approval.
when erwin reviews the sketches, he’ll see the first design daylight came up with is focused on function than form, a bit more advanced than what would be expected of the town but the list of materials next to the sketches are hopefully(?) available. It is also definitely relying on body power with how the wires and cables are attached to the sling that will go across the back and shoulder and there’s no sign or mention of batteries.
the second design — one he must have drawn up because why not? — is... is certainly something. ]
no subject
[Erwin is watching this drawing develop with fascination. Daylight is a more accomplished artist than he'd thought, and he can easily piece together how that type of prosthetic would work. The second design is more esoteric, but damn, if he wouldn't rather have that one.]
It was an idea Agatha gave me, in fact. She said it would be good for us to keep memories of who we are, and the things that are important to us, close to our hearts.
[Erwin reaches into his shirt and pulls out a small golden locket that he's been wearing around his neck.]
I took that literally.
[He tucks the locket away without opening it.]
I took some photos of things I wouldn't want to forget again, and put them in the locket. Then I broke the clasp so it won't come off. I can do the same for you, if you like.
no subject
don’t choose the weird squiggly tentacles... please don’t, erwin. that requires daylight’s weird robot power.when he learns what erwin meant when he offered up the services of photography, daylight is clearly touched — his eyes widen in surprise, like what was said just occurred to him, and then a big smile stretches across his face in obvious gratitude. ]
That would mean a lot to me, [ actually. yeah, it really would. certain faces and names come to his mind and the idea of forgetting them or losing the details of their faces or their personalities...
he shakes his head, determined to stay positive about this new development. ]
I have a few sketches I made of my friends back home. If you could take those and photograph them, that’ll be extra security that I’d appreciate a lot, buddy.
So— What do you think about the design so far? I think I can get the elastics and material to build one of the prosthetics buuuuut— [ of course, he’s going to swing for the normal-looking one. only the best for his friends. ] The first one there, the one I made for real? That’ll be easier to make since I have anatomy books and medical text here in the house already.
[ the one requiring the, um, tentacle is going to require very different study materials. (does anywhere here carry live squid or no?) ]
no subject
[It makes sense that Daylight doesn't have any pictures from home, or anything here that can really remind him of his other life, so Erwin will do the best he can to preserve those sketches. This could be the chance he's been wanting to play around with shadow boxes and getting depth in his photographs.]
The coiled one is definitely interesting, but I'm more interested in function over form.
[Meaning if Daylight wants to play around with the tentacle one later on, Erwin will be a happy guinea pig for the experiment, but he'd prefer one sooner rather than later.]
Is there anything I can do to help you? I'm happy to find supplies for you.
no subject
[ something happened to them. he's pretty careful with his sketchbooks - aka: he doesn't keep them in his crazy study of clues, so no one rips through them. - but never hurts to be too careful. the headshots of his loved ones will be... pretty varied so daylight makes a note to give erwin a headsup later. he knows not everyone is going to be... chill with what his friends look like.
but that's for later- right now, he wants to focus on erwin's prosthetic arm. and with the need of it sooner rather than later, he jots that note down, making use of the more conventional first design. maybe if this goes well, they could venture into more... er... curious territory?
let's see how this goes, though- ] I think I should be okay with supplies... It'll take a while to gather them all up without raising eyebrows but I should be able to do it.
[ arm and shoulder slings. sewing kit and the sewing machine in the house. fishing wires. hooks and bolts. silicone rubber and other silicone ingredients. jelly for the living arm so it doesn't get trapped in the cast... an alarming amount of flesh paint... very normal things for a guy to get, he's sure. ] I do need a moulding of your other arm and measurements of your limb now, if that's not a bother.
[ he pauses, considering the steps they'll need to take, before saying, ]
Sorry if it gets weird when I, like, get to the part of slathering your arm and hand with jelly.
no subject
Please, make me a list. If we're both gathering them, then it may not alert anyone to what's going on.
[Daylight will have to be very specific about what he needs, but Erwin is happy to gopher around and get as much as he can.]
Ah, yes. That's... that's fine.
[Damn. He should have known this was coming, but it still catches him by surprise. Erwin has no problem with Daylight seeing his good arm, but he assumes he'll also need a measurement of the stump at some point, and that will take awhile to build up towards.]
Can I ask that we do the stump another day? I'll need some time to... mentally prepare for that.
