The second one. The questionable decisions were me trying to correct something that turned out to be an even worse one.

If you were brought here at the moment of death, in some sort of twisted imitation of an afterlife, that somewhat differs from my circumstances.

that's what i mean, yeah. the writing on the wall wasn't subtle. i considered the afterlife thing but it doesn't really track so probably not.

( Lophiiformes was known for devouring souls and leaving them some level of sentient, but the straight laced and restrictive vibe of Santa Rosita didn't parse with the hungry light that enjoyed party girls. plus: you'd think she'd have run into some sacrifices she recognized, being the one that delivered plenty them for the slaughter. and so far, not really. )

Technically, I was already dead long before I was taken here. But that's such a depressing way to say it.

Let's just say my life as a human ended a long time ago. A bunch of things happened over the centuries, and I was summoned into the world again. That was all before I was brought here, though.

you're pretty upfront about the whole undead inhuman thing. humans generally aren't big on undead inhuman thing, historically, just to let you know.

It helps when you're famous. And surrounded by a mage society who are, collectively, used to this sort of thing.

Besides, hiding my identity completely would be such a hassle. Hardly anyone I've met hasn't heard of me, and then I have to explain how I have so much experience with the modern world or they keep staring and stumbling over their questions.

i'm not going to die just for the sake of it but if i do have to be suckered into further existence, i really wouldn't have picked this.

Yet we're here. And I strongly believe we can make this world a better place. It won't ever be perfect, but if we root out the source of the issue and make the city better, then it'll be more tolerable.

i didn't have a dramatic choking up blood or teary-eyed, touching last moments, but yes. pretty sure.

how do you know you died and not remember it happening? i remember well enough.

I remember the events leading up to it. And there is someone from my home world here who confirmed it.
