text, un: daylight.
[ in the mid-afternoon, after trying and failing to get in contact with the others and with suspicions growing by the hour, daylight finally sends out a message to the network at large: ]
It looks like people are going missing.
Two of my friends, Okuyasu and Kiara, haven't been responding to any of my messages or calls since yesterday.
I've gone around th town to see if I can get a glimpse of them and nothing. Nada. Zip. Jackshit.
Coupled with other faces not being seen around town anymore - Have you guys noticed anyone else not popping up? Or noticed your friends not responding to messages?
Let me know so we can keep a track of everyone's status.

I don't know much first aid personally but I know how to prep a site for emergency post-mission care. I can donate some materials and supplies for post-care, like blankets and bandages. [ he can also start buying some stuff because he's hauling ass all over the town.
it's going to cost a pretty penny, he knows, but daylight thinks agatha won't mind too much. he'll let her know when she comes back. ]

in any case he's certainly got a crowd going in here, even if it's all text. angelo pays attention to it. he hums thoughtfully on the other side of the screen, weighs his options. would his captain approve of his next move? yes, he thinks; it does not cost him to offer. ]
I'm sure you've enough offers of aid, but I can lend my name to it as well if you need it. Overpreparation isn't exactly a bad thing.
[ now, these people have been missing since yesterday. he wonders if they're already dead, but he won't raise the question now. ]

Thanks, Angelo. We’re going to be all hands on deck when they return. It looks like plus nine people are missing and counting so, either way, that’s a lot of people we need.
[ medical supplies to buy. a secure place or even several secure places for them to recover and to share information. there's a lot of things they need to do when - not if - the others return to them.
while running around the house, looking for supplies and money to buy things as he makes a final round through the town, something occurs to daylight and he sends the following message, ]
I don’t mean to change the subject but I think we’ve met, right? In the theaters?

[ nine people, huh. that's big enough of a number if he considers how many of them are transplants, and yet the neighbours continue to not to notice. ]
Nine is an curious number. I highly doubt they've been chosen for their charm and intellect, though it'd be nice if that were truly the case.
You've been here more than I have. Have these people - to your knowledge - received any special treatment since coming to this place?

back on the current subject, though— ]
Not to my knowledge. [ and that’s what frustrates daylight the most, really. ] It’s what I’m trying to figure out at the moment with the names we have, the addresses they’re from, and what they were doing up until their disappearance.
[ what do they all have in common? besides being in their situation?
maybe daylight is overthinking this. maybe being in this situation is what got them selected, period. if that’s the case then they’re unfortunate victims of chance and circumstances. ]
Whatever the reason, we’ve got to play it safe.
Make sure you’re buddied up with someone if you need to go somewhere or you give someone a heads up and a time. Just so we're all on the same page and know who’s still with us.

[ which is always the most terrible part of bearing the tragedy: waiting in dread. ]
I will be careful. I have responsibilities as well; it will not do to be compromised regardless.
That being said, you should heed your own advice, as you seem to me like the type to be reckless.

I’m a pretty passionate guy when the tough gets going, you know? Especially with what’s happening. Better we use the time and unknown to our advantage somehow and someway.
[ daylight will not lie: he is on intense edge right now, practically living on the existence of pins and needles. feeling helpless and feeling useless is something he does not like to feel. more so if people he cares for are involved.
so he feels like he has to throw himself into this. they can’t sit by and do nothing while the others are missing, possibly going through something right now. ]
If you can, stick with your house buddy, whoever they are. The confusion of whether people are missing or are just gone is causing a lot of muckery and fuckery, it seems, so they should be your first point of contact when updates are concerned.

[ is all he says on that since he thinks daylight gets it, anyway. ]
A very good plan. Or at least, checking in as often as possible if we are to move about to rescue the others. I highly doubt the city's cops care.

Got it in one.
Some really weird shenanigans went down back in December. If you tried to contact them about it their only response was suggesting it could be a prank or we were mistaken. [ in hindsight, it would have been nice to have known this before he and kiara spent a whole afternoon playing the most morbid game of furniture arrangement (only featuring frozen corpses) but what can you do. ]
From here on out, I think it's safe to assume we're on our own when stuff like this goes down.

Are we sure they're human? It's not uncommon to have deeply ingrained biases out of superiority. It is certainly the case for me back home.
[ not mentioning that he's one of those "deeply biased people" because he's a newtype that's annoyed he's currently useless here. ]
no subject
Right now? There's no other way for us to confirm what/who exactly they are. [ outside of somehow incapacitating/killing them to perform an autopsy and... er... daylight likes to think they aren't being pushed to those limits yet. ]
no subject
[ well now.
in any case, 'humanoid' doesn't really tell them much, but that's all they've got going for the cops here. it means they have to devote more time to waiting and observing, sadly. ]

daylight stares at the message, rewriting and rewriting his reply to it.
finally, he sends the short but full-of-potential message: ]
In the future, if we’ve got to, if we really need to, can we talk face-to-face if you’re serious about this angle?
[ because, hm, let’s not log easy evidence for them but... figuring out what’s going on here or who/what these people are would be nice. daylight is still conflicted and repelled by the idea of doing such a thing to another humanoid, a living person, maybe, but what else can they do? if this gives them an edge...
it is an angle they have to weigh on, long and hard, if push comes to shove. he might as well discuss it with someone who seems down with it. ]
no subject
[ ie, he will not autopsy for autopsy's sake, but if it is to be done for a specific goal in the future, certainly. it can happen. anything can. ]
no subject
[ it’s something he’s doing his best to steel his nerves at the thought of doing. should this wild idea help them advance in the mystery of this town, he’ll give his hand on it.
for now though: ] Definitely a topic we should touch on in the future. There’s a lot of ground we need to cover if we want to shape up a proper response to what is going on.
Like it’s been pointed out, we’re basically on our own. No one else is here to back us up.
